My observation of the game, tips and notes.

Anonymous 7 years ago updated by Ervin 7 years ago 4

Here are some observations I've seen in the beta. Before I go any further, here are my specs to my pc and my current set up.

HMD; Oculus Rift Cv1

CPU: i5 4690K

GPU: GTX 1070 FE

 RAM: 16 Gb PSU: EVGA 600 B1, 80+ BRONZE 600W

Mobo: Gigabyte LGA 1150 Intel H97

All the usb ports for the sensors and the headset are connected to the Mobo and the HDMI for the headset is connected to a DVI adapter in the DVI port.

Sound: Eveything over all sound good, but some things could use a slight improvement in my opinion(so if you don't like it, its fine, no worries!).

1) It could just be my headset, or Steam Vr being buggy, but when I use my "thruster gun" sound only comes from the left headphone and not the right when I'm holding it to my left, its loud so I should be able to hear it faintly or partially in my right earphone, but nothing (both ears if I'm just doing nothing). However, when I hold in front of my body, I can hear it on both sides. Also, if noting is going on my right side, the headphone makes no noise, by no noise I mean I can't even hear ambient noise until something happens such as I shoot my gun, get shot at, etc.

2) The "thruster gun" when no longer in use and it powers down(no longer holding the trigger to accelerate), sound just stops. Its very sudden and feels uncomfortable, at least to me. I would like to hear a cooling down sound or something saying "hey, this is shutting down since you're no longer using it. Similar to how you hear a car's motor decelerate, it would sound very weird if when you let go of the gas the motor just went dead silent. Just a thought.

3) I thinks its just some weapons, but a reloading noise is always nice.

4) Also, there's no sound when your health is very low, a heads up is always nice, like a slight beeping or something, nothing too loud, but just enough you notice, especially when you're being shot at, maybe ping slightly less when you're not being hit( such as in most zelda games when you have three to half a heart left, the constant pinging bugs me so much).

5) I feel as if more little sounds are missing, I mean, it has enough sounds, but I feel as if they cover the very basics.

Visuals: They look good, somewhat simple, but they fit the theme. I'll keep this very brief, but I noticed when I was reloading a weapon, it didn't have any kind of meter or display that showed how long it would be till it reloaded. Although I did see some weapons animate, such as the revolver, that was a nice touch.

Gameplay: Its simple and the mechanics are pretty straight forward. My only complain is I did not like how high you could fly up, I did notice some people flying to the top of the map and to shoot them you have to fly closer while they shoot and vice versa. Just an idea, but lowering the height of the map would be nice( I didn't try to fly down, but I'm assuming you can to do the same in that direction), I mean, sure give enough room to fly over any building at a reasonable height/distance, but not at where its currently at(unless that was the idea all along to allow players that kind of mobility and access to a very high part of the map, then ignore what I just said). An additional note, I'm not the best shooter, (possibly slight under average, but I do have my lucky moments), but players with skills way above mine may not find this bothersome, just wanted to state my point of view.

Other observations:

1) The Oculus pointer comes out of the top of your hand at an awkward slanted angle, rather than the front of your hand as if the beam was coming out of your index finger if it was pointing.

2) When switching weapons, if you hold the joystick a split second too long(which is always) it spams the weapon switch sound like "Braaaaaaaaaa!!", making me dread switching weapons considering how painful the noise is.

3)While on the topic of switching weapons, I forget which weapon is where, just a though, but maybe have a little menu pop up above your hand(displays the three available weapons and shield option) that shows the weapons as long as you hold the joystick in any direction and won't switch to the weapon(or activate the shield) till you release it. So you push the joystick up, the little menu instantly pops up, and highlights the weapon set to up, if you let it go while its highlighted, it'll switch to that weapon, if you don't but move it around it'll select/highlight other weapons according to where the joystick is. Lastly, if you put the joystick back to the weapon you have equipped, it does nothing, just closes the menu and no weapons switch happens.

I understand the game is in Beta and some things are bound to change, but these are my observations on where the game is currently at.

If anything else comes to mind, I'll update this comment, I hope it helps. Over all the game was fun, even if I died a lot, keep it up.

Well I created an account, after I posted this, if you have any questions, I will do my best to respond.

Hey! Thanks for a lengthy & very informative post, appreciate the time you took to do this.

We agree on every aspect of the sounds that you mentioned & balancing will be definitely of the key elements to work on as we go forward. As we also are gamers, we understand how crucial sounds are in FPS. Great idea to create a "fizzle out" or similar sound when you stop accelerating with the "Speedshifter" (that's what we call the "thruster gun" :)

Same goes for the Visuals. We have loads of animations in mind, but obviously we wanted to receive the initial feedback from the public to make sure the foundation of the game is solid, before proceeding with polishing it.

In terms of the map, we wanted to provide a combination of open & enclosed areas. A sniper rifle would be handy on this map :) I can assure you that we've learned a lot from the initial setting & have many, many, many plans for future maps.

Please do continue posting any thoughts that may occur, it's extremely helpful for us in understanding what we need to prioritize & how to make for an overall awesome experience!

Hi

Awsome gameplay - thanks!
i7 and 1070 MSI Labtop, Oculus Rift with 3 sensors, game runs fine, no lagging, 360 all good :)

Some time graphics gets distorted.

If i streach my hands fully, the screen turns grey, strange!

The sound could be better, regarding hearing others players.

Would be nice if there where som sort of communication feature with others (Like lets be friends and hunt down this other dude :))

Will try the game again later

Sincerely Jan

Thanks for checking out our game Jan!
I'll forward the issue in regards to the graphics being distorted to the devs. As I posted above, we totally agree that the sounds in the game have to be looked at closer. In terms of Team Chat, we definitely have it in plans, who doesn't like to troll every now and then :)

Again thanks for having a go & leaving your thoughts!
